Rapunzel, Rapunzel
I was born a blondie. Coming from a family who has strong Italian and Lebanese genes my honeyed hair color always made me stand out. My hair has always been fine like corn silk and long…like touches the tops of my knees long. The combination of these two facts awarded me the title of being called “Rapunzel” through my childhood. I didn’t really mind because while my thick, fine hair might not have been as voluminous as I wanted, it was healthy…or was until my senior year of high school.
Change is not something I cope well with, so the thought of leaving home, deciding on a degree and entering into college took its emotional toll which caused my hair to thin DRASTICALLY. So much so that I could see the change in pictures. It didn’t shine as much, baby hairs stood up around and framed my forehead and it was thin (Insert a deflated and teary “ugh, no!” here as I combed through and looked at my hair in the mirror).
That’s when I started the search for tips, tricks and products to help restore that “Rapunzel Glow,” I used to have. And, ya’ll, I STRUCK HAIR GLOW GOLD. So, here are the top 3 things that fully restored my hair. (Disclaimer: This is not sponsored or endorsed. Just me chatting about amazing hair miracle workers).
Laritelle shampoo, conditioner, and growth serum. This is my number one for hair products. It is made in California, is all natural and uses herbs and essential oils that specifically create a healthy scalp which then promotes new hair growth! I literally could feel my hair getting thicker after a month of use and could see that beautiful shine coming back. BREAK THROUGH! (Side note: This stuff is expensive but lasted me from December through May…So it is fully worth the price for the magic is works and how long it lasts.)
Ditch store bought dry shampoo and make your own. Dry shampoos have a lot of fillers, additives and chemicals in them that I can’t even pronounce and often times work against your hair by causing build up. I started making my own using a shaker bottle, arrow root powder (for darker hair throw in some coco powder to avoid white streaks) and add 10-15 drops of rosemary, cedarwood and lavender. This keeps my 2 day old hair oil free, doesn’t build up and the oils smell amazing WHILE giving my scalp and hair much needed strength and moisture.
Invest in a boar bristle brush. I used to think a brush is a brush, but this brush is used when your hair is dry and makes it shiny, pulls out your natural texture and volume (which us gals with fine hair NEED), and pushes all of your natural/healthy oils down to protect and strengthen your hair.
Last week I went to grab my pony tail and did a giddy, girlish skip at realizing how thick it has gotten. Our hair is glorious, all lengths, colors and styles, and every small change we can make towards supporting it is worth the leap. So, cheers to you, Rapunzel. Let down your hair, twirl in the sunshine and and embrace yourself.
